About Kabani Crockery Center – Housewares & Supplies in Mumbai
Finding us can be a bit of a challenge if you aren't used to the narrow lanes of Masjid Bandar. Kabani Crockery Center is on the 2nd floor of a building on 43rd Dhobi Street. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep, so you really have to watch your step, especially if you’re carrying a heavy box. The whole area is a maze of shops and people carrying heavy loads on their shoulders. It’s loud and it’s crowded, but that’s just how this part of the city functions. Our space is filled with plates, bowls, and all sorts of glassware from floor to ceiling. We have to be very careful how we move around so nothing gets broken. It’s not the most organized-looking place, but we know exactly where every single item is kept. The windows are small, so we rely on the overhead lights most of the day. On the second floor, we’re a bit away from the street level noise, but you can still hear the shouting of the vendors down below. We spend our days unpacking crates and packing them back up for customers. It involves a lot of bubble wrap and old newspapers. We’ve been at this location for a long time, and we know most of the other shopkeepers on Dhobi Street. We share news and sometimes help each other out when someone is short-handed. It’s a tight community here, even if it looks chaotic from the outside.
