Jyoti Chemical Centre

Jyoti Chemical Centre is right in the middle of the chaos of Kalbadevi. We are on the first floor of the Laxmi Niwas Building in Kolbhat Lane. It’s a narrow street, like most of them around here. You have to navigate through the crowds and the carts to find us. We’ve been in this building for a long time. The office is 14/B. It feels like an old-school Mumbai business because that’s exactly what it is. We deal with all sorts of chemicals. The walls are lined with old ledgers and some newer computers. It’s a mix of the old ways and the new. We know all the other shopkeepers in the lane. We’ve been through the monsoon floods and the summer heat together. We don't have a website with a bunch of fancy pictures. People just know where we are. They come up the stairs, have a seat, and we talk about what they need. It’s very personal. We don't use a lot of big words. We just talk shop. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Kalbadevi has a soul that you don’t find in the newer parts of the city. We’re just glad to be a small part of it. We just keep our heads down and handle the daily orders. It's a simple, honest way to do business in a very crowded city.
