We are based in the Shah & Nahar Industrial Estate, specifically in A-1, 313. This part of Lower Parel on Sitaram Jadhav Marg is always humming with activity. You have to navigate around a lot of delivery vans and workers just to get to the entrance. Our space is filled with the sound of sewing and the movement of fabric. We make various products that people wear, so there is always a lot of color around the room. It can get a bit cramped when new rolls of cloth arrive, and we have to shuffle things around to make space. The lighting is bright so everyone can see what they are doing with the needles and thread. We aren't a high-fashion boutique; we are a working factory floor where things get made. There is usually a bit of lint in the air and the hum of the ventilation system in the background. Most of us have been working here for years, so we have a good rhythm going. We take our tea breaks together and talk about whatever is on the news. It is honest work that keeps us on our feet most of the day. Lower Parel has changed a lot with all the new malls, but inside this industrial estate, it still feels like the old working heart of the city. We just keep our heads down and focus on the work at hand. We don't mind the long hours much.
