Jorns Machine Fabric/Mehtab International runs out of a flat in the Majithai Apartments. It is B-17, right on S.V. Road in Vile Parle West. Being in an apartment building for a machine business might seem a bit odd to some, but it works for us. The Irla area is always buzzing with shoppers and traffic, so there is never a quiet moment outside the window. We handle a lot of things related to these fabric machines from this office. There are folders everywhere and samples of what the machines can do. Sometimes the courier guys struggle to find the right entrance because the building is a bit old and the numbering is confusing, but they usually figure it out. V. Parle W is a crowded place, especially near the Irla bridge. We’ve got the regular staff coming in every morning, navigating through the S.V. Road traffic which is a headache. Inside the office, things are a bit cramped with all the manuals and spare parts we keep on the shelves. It’s not some glass-walled corporate space. We drink tea from the shop downstairs and talk about the latest machine orders or the heat. It gets noisy with the traffic sounds drifting up, but you get used to it after a week. We’ve been at 189 S.V. Road for a good amount of time now. We just do our work, talk to the people who need fabric machinery, and close up when the day is finally done.
