Krishna Shirts

We are based in Gala No. 9 within the Laxmi Industry area on Subhash Road in Jogeshwari East. If you know Mumbai, you know these industrial galas are usually quite packed together. Krishna Shirts is a small operation where we spend our time surrounded by fabric rolls and sewing machines. The sound of the needles hitting the cloth is the background music of our lives here. It’s a bit of a climb to get through the industrial estate, especially during the monsoon when the roads get a little muddy. Inside, the space is tight, but we’ve organized it so everything is within arm's reach. We have these big cutting tables that take up most of the room, and the steam from the irons makes the air heavy. Usually, we are too busy to notice the time passing until the lunch tiffins arrive. Most of our work comes from word of mouth in the local garment market. We don't have a marketing team or a fancy website; we just have our machines and our hands. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour, and we all just sit outside the gala and talk until it comes back on. It is a honest way to spend the day, even if the work is tiring. We just keep our heads down and try to finish the batches on time so we can go home to our families.
