J Jayantilal Shah & Co is located in room 101 of the Machishwala Building. We are in Sector 16D over in Kalbadevi. If you know Kalbadevi, you know how crowded and narrow the streets are. The Machishwala Building has been around for a very long time. It has that old smell of stone and dust. Our office on the first floor is 101. It’s a small room with a lot of history. We have high shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, and we have to use a ladder to reach the stuff at the top. The window looks out onto a brick wall, so we don't get much of a view, but it keeps the room quiet from the street noise below. We do a lot of paperwork here. There are ledgers and old pens scattered across the desks. It’s not the most modern setup, but it’s how J Jayantilal Shah & Co has always operated. We know the other people in the building, the ones in the textile offices and the small traders. It’s a community where everyone knows everyone’s business. We keep a small fan on the desk during the summer months because it gets quite stuffy in Sector 16D. It’s just a simple workplace in an old building where we show up every morning and do our bit. We usually close the heavy wooden door around five and head home through the busy market crowds.
