Indian Treasures

Our place is on the ground floor of Gazdar House, which is at 629-A on Jagannath Shankar Seth Road in Kalbadevi. It’s an old building, you can tell by the walls and the way the light hits the floor in the morning. Indian Treasures is basically just a room full of things we’ve gathered over time. We have stuff sitting on the floor and tucked into corners because there’s never enough shelf space. The road outside is always full of cars and people heading towards the station or the market. It gets quite dusty because of all the traffic on JSS Road, so we spend a decent amount of time just wiping things down. There’s no big sign or anything flashy to bring people in. People usually just find us while they’re walking past Gazdar House. We sit here most of the day, sometimes fixing things or just moving boxes from one side to the other. It’s not a polished showroom by any means. It’s more of a practical space where we keep our stock and talk to the people who drop by. The ceiling is high which helps when it gets humid in the summer months. We just focus on the work at hand and keep the shop running as best we can. It’s a quiet enough life inside the shop despite the chaos right outside the door.
