Hotel Mansi

Hotel Mansi has been at B/11/8 in Goregaon West for a good while now. It’s just me and a couple of young boys from the village running the show every day. We open up quite early because the morning crowd starts looking for tea and breakfast snacks before the local trains get too crowded for anyone to move. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we haven't found the time or the extra money to shut down for a few days to get it done. It’s a bit noisy since we’re right in the middle of everything here. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use candles or torches, which makes things slow down, but our regulars are used to it by now and don't complain. We don't have a big menu with fifty items. Just the usual stuff that people like to eat every day without getting bored. I do all the accounts at the small wooden desk in the corner. Sometimes I lose track of who owes what on their monthly tabs, but it usually works out in the end. My wife sometimes brings over extra supplies from home if we run out of sugar or oil in the middle of a busy day. It’s definitely not a big corporate operation. Just a simple place where you can sit down for twenty minutes and have a meal without anyone bothering you. We’ve seen kids grow up and start their own jobs while coming here. It’s just life in Goregaon.
