Our office is tucked away in Dharavi, specifically on Sant Kakkaya Marg. If you know Mumbai, you know this area is always moving and never really gets quiet. We are located in the New Municipal Chawl, so it’s a tight space but we make it work for our engineering projects. There are people everywhere and the sounds of the city come right through the windows. We don't have plush carpets or fancy lobbies. Instead, we have shelves full of parts and tools and a couple of desks where we handle the paperwork. It can get pretty humid in the afternoons, but we just turn on the fans and keep going. Getting here in the morning is a bit of a struggle with the Mumbai traffic, but once we’re inside, we focus on the jobs at hand. We deal with various engineering bits and pieces throughout the day. The neighbors are all doing different things, from making leather goods to small-scale manufacturing, so there's a real sense of hard work all around us. We eat our lunch from tiffins and talk about the latest rains or the train schedules. It’s a very grounded place to work. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just fix things and build things as they come. It’s busy, it’s a bit cramped, and it’s loud, but it’s where we do our engineering work every single day.
