High-Tech Enterprises

High-Tech Enterprises is based in the K. C. Industrial Estate, which is on Subhash Road in Jogeshwari East. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know how crowded it gets. Getting a truck in and out of the estate is a bit of a challenge every single day. Our unit is number 11. It’s a compact space, like most units around here, so we have to be very careful about how we stack things. We have stuff piled up almost to the ceiling sometimes. It gets noisy with all the other workshops nearby—there is always someone hammering or some machine humming. We don’t have a lot of luxury here. It’s a basic industrial unit with a small mezzanine for the office work. The air is always a bit heavy with the smell of oil and metal. We usually eat our lunch together in a small corner we cleared out. Most of our neighbors in the estate have been here as long as we have, so we all know each other’s business. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there; we just want to keep our machines running and finish the work we promised. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit around and wait, or we use it as an excuse to go grab a vada pav from the stall down the road. It’s just the way life is in an industrial estate like this.
