Mahalaxmi Umbrella Mart

At Mahalaxmi Umbrella Mart, we stay pretty busy, especially when the clouds start looking dark over Mumbai. Our shop is at No. 52/58 on Babu Genu Road, right in New Hanuman Lane. It is a narrow area and things get crowded fast. We have umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and stacked against the walls. It’s mostly just us and the stock. We’ve seen many seasons come and go from this spot. When the monsoon hits, the shop is a bit of a madhouse with everyone wanting something sturdy that won't flip inside out in the wind. During the dry months, we still keep busy fixing broken ribs or replacing handles for people who want to save their old favorites. It’s a practical business. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. Just racks of black umbrellas and some colorful ones for the kids. The floor is often a bit dusty because of the foot traffic from the lane, but that's just part of being in this part of town. Sometimes the tea seller comes by and we take a quick break, but usually, there is someone standing at the counter needing help. We know the neighbors and the other shopkeepers around Babu Genu Road well. It’s a simple life, focused on keeping people dry when the rain starts pouring down. It might be a small trade, but everyone needs an umbrella eventually. We just keep our stock ready for the next storm.
