Our shop is 313 in Dharamaraj Gully. If you know Kalbadevi, you know how narrow and crowded these lanes can be. We are right in the middle of M J Market area, specifically in Gundi Sheri. It’s a place where history feels very close because of the old buildings and the way business has been done here for generations. The shop itself is packed with goods from floor to ceiling. There isn’t much room to move around once a couple of people come inside. We have wooden cupboards that have been here since the shop opened. Lighting isn't the best in the gully, so we keep the overhead lights on all day. It’s a lot of manual work, moving boxes and keeping track of everything in the ledgers. We don't use much fancy technology, just the basics to keep things running. The air is always thick with the smell of old paper and the goods we sell. Sometimes the heat in these narrow lanes gets a bit much, but a cold drink from the stall around the corner helps. We’ve known the families in the neighboring shops for decades. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are and they come when they need something. It’s a traditional way of working that hasn't changed much over the years. We just keep our heads down and manage the stock as it comes and goes.
