If you are looking for us, we are right in Dadar East at the Pearl Cooperative Housign Soci. We are on Jijamata Road, which is pretty easy to find since we are just opposite the old Premir Cinema. Gordhan Damodar Murtiwala has been around for a long time and we spend our days surrounded by clay and stone. The air in the workshop is usually a bit dusty because of all the carving and polishing we do. It’s a traditional kind of job and we don't use a lot of high-tech machines. Most of it is done by hand with tools that have been around for years. You can often hear the noise from the street coming in, but we get used to it while we are working on the statues. People come from all over the neighborhood to see what we are making, especially when a big festival is coming up. The space in the housing society is a bit tight sometimes with all the finished pieces waiting to be picked up, but we manage. We aren't interested in being a big factory. We just like making things that look right and mean something to the people who buy them. It is hard work and our hands are usually dirty by the end of the day, but it feels good to see a finished murti ready to go. Being across from the cinema means there is always a crowd nearby, which keeps things lively around here every single day.
