If you find yourself wandering down Parsi Panchayat Road in Andheri East, you will eventually hit Sona Udyog. We are tucked away at No. 27. Goel Power Controls Pvt. Ltd. has been here for a while, and honestly, the traffic in Mumbai makes getting here a bit of a chore some days. But once you’re inside, it’s a different world. We deal with power controls, which means there are wires and boxes and testers everywhere you look. It’s not the most glamorous place, and the air conditioning can be a bit temperamental when the afternoon sun hits the windows. We have a small crew and we’ve all known each other for years. Sometimes we argue about where a certain tool went or who left the lights on, but it’s all in good spirits. The industrial estate is always humming with noise from other units, so it’s never quiet around here. We don’t really do the whole corporate thing with long meetings and slide shows. Instead, we just huddle around a workbench and figure out what needs to happen next. It can get pretty cramped when a new shipment comes in and we have to stack boxes wherever they will fit. We just try to keep things moving and make sure everything is wired up the way it is supposed to be. It’s a practical life, and we are fine with that. It works for us.
