Gauri Engg

The workshop is located at Plot No 26 A 26 in Shivaji Nagar, over in the Govandi area. Gauri Engg is a place where there is always a smell of cut metal and machine oil hanging in the air. It’s not the cleanest environment, as there are iron shavings on the floor and grease stains on almost every surface, including our clothes. We have some heavy machinery that makes a lot of noise, so we often have to shout to be heard over the hum and the clanging. The roof is made of corrugated sheets that get very loud when it rains, making it hard to focus on anything else. We don’t have a fancy office upstairs; we just have a small corner with a wooden desk where we keep the ledger and the phone. Most of our day is spent working with our hands, fixing things or putting parts together for customers who have been coming to us for years. Shivaji Nagar is a busy, gritty place, and our shop fits right in with the rest of the industrial units on the block. We don't have a marketing team or anyone to polish our image. We just show up in our overalls, do the work that needs to be done, and go home tired. It's an honest way to make a living, and we don't expect it to be anything else.
