G M Badkar

G M Badkar is based in Flat No 7, up on the fourth floor of the Kasturi building. We are right in the Churchgate area, directly opposite Petroleum House. It’s an older building, so it has that classic Mumbai character, with high ceilings and those heavy doors. Being on the fourth floor means we are away from the immediate noise of the street, though you can still hear the city hum. The office is pretty straightforward. We have our files, our desks, and a couple of old cupboards for storage. Churchgate is a very busy part of the city, especially during office hours when everyone is rushing to the station. We see the crowds from our windows every day. Our work is mostly quiet and involves a lot of reading and writing. It isn't a place with flashy furniture or modern art. It’s just a functional space where we get our daily tasks done. We’ve lived with the creaks of this building for a long time now. Sometimes the monsoon rain hits the windows pretty hard, but the walls are thick. We don't have a big reception desk; people just come in and we talk across the table. It’s a very traditional way of working, but it suits us just fine. We keep things simple and just focus on the business at hand without any extra fuss. There is usually a stack of newspapers in the corner and some tea cooling on the side.
