Dream Beauty Parlour

This parlour is located at 2/ 20, Indira Bhuvan, which is in a chawl on Rani Sati Marg. It’s in Malad East, quite close to the Velani area. Living and working in a chawl means you’re never really alone; there’s always someone passing by the door or kids playing outside. The space is small, just enough for a couple of chairs and a small table for the supplies. I’ve lived in Malad for most of my life, so I know the shortcuts and the local gossip. The parlour is where many women from the neighborhood come to catch up while they get their eyebrows done. It’s a bit noisy with the fans whirring and the sounds from the street, but it has a good feel to it. I don't have a big sign, just a small one so people know which door to knock on. Sometimes the monsoon rain leaks a little near the window, but we just put a bucket there and carry on. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning and soft music, but it’s real. People come here because they know me and they know I’ll do a decent job without charging them a fortune. It’s just a small dream I’ve kept going in the middle of a very busy Malad street. Most days I’m just here from morning till late evening.
