Designer Chikan

You can find us in the Reshma Building, which is located on the 2nd Hasnabad Lane in Santacruz West. We are right opposite the masjid, so you can always hear the calls to prayer throughout the day, which gives the place a certain rhythm. Santacruz is a crowded part of Mumbai, and this lane is no exception. There are always delivery bikes and people walking past our door. Our space is up on the second floor, so you have to walk up the stairs. It’s not the easiest climb if you are carrying something heavy, but we do it several times a day without thinking about it anymore. Inside, the rooms are filled with the smell of fabric and thread. We do a lot of the chikan work right here, so you’ll see people sitting and working on details whenever you walk in. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes with all the boxes stacked up in the corners. We’ve been in this building for quite some time. The windows look out over the lane, and you can see everything that’s happening down below. It gets quite hot in the summer months, so we keep the fans going at full speed all the time. It is a hardworking environment where we just try to keep up with the orders that come in. We don’t have much in the way of a fancy showroom, just our desks and the work we do.
