Design Space

Design Space is located in Nirmal Galaxy. It’s a modern building, but our actual workspace is pretty lived-in. We have blueprints rolled up in corners and piles of material samples like wood and stone sitting on every available surface. It’s where we do all our thinking and drawing. Being in Nirmal Galaxy is convenient for us. We like the light that comes through the windows in the morning. We spend a lot of time talking to each other about how to fit a kitchen into a small room or what kind of lighting would work best for a hallway. We aren't the kind of people who wear suits to work. We’re usually in jeans and t-shirts because we’re often crawling around on floors with measuring tapes. We don’t have a big mission statement on the wall. We just want the rooms we work on to be comfortable for the people living in them. Sometimes a client changes their mind at the last minute and we have to start a drawing over, which is frustrating but part of the job. We try to be practical about things. If a certain material is too expensive or won't last, we say so. It’s better to be honest than to have someone unhappy later on. We enjoy the process of seeing a flat drawing turn into a real room. It’s nice to see something finished after weeks of work on the drawings.
