Das Engineering Work

You have to go up to the second floor of the Annex Thakkar building to find us. We are in Gala No. 10. Old Anjeerwadi is a bit of a maze if you aren't familiar with Devi Galli, but you get used to the turns after a few visits. The stairs are a bit steep and the building has that old industrial smell of oil and cut metal. We’ve been here for quite some time now. Inside the workshop, there’s always a machine running or someone banging on a part that needs fixing. It’s noisy and there are metal shavings on the floor, but that’s just how an engineering shop looks. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting room. You just walk in and find someone at a lathe or a workbench. Most of our tools are older models, but they still work perfectly for the jobs we get. We take on whatever repairs or small parts people bring in. It’s not high-tech stuff, just solid manual work that requires a steady hand. Sometimes the lights flicker when the heavy machines start up in the morning. We usually have the windows open to let the breeze in because it gets stuffy with all the welding going on. Our hands are usually greasy by ten in the morning, which is how we like it. We don't mind the mess. It’s just how we get things done here in the gala. We know most of the other guys in the building too.
