We operate out of the Smt. Laxmibai R. Ghag Chawl, which is tucked right behind the Shivsena Office on P.M. Road. Finding us might take you a little minute if you aren't originally from around the Khotwadi area. It’s a typical Santacruz West spot, a bit crowded and always busy with neighbors walking by or hanging out their laundry. D Jeans is just what we do here in this small space. The room isn't huge at all, but we make it work with the sewing machines and the stacks of fabric we have piled up. Most of the time, the radio is playing some old songs in the background while we work away. It gets really hot in the afternoons, so we keep those old ceiling fans going at full speed all day long. We’ve been in this chawl for a good bit now, and almost everyone around here knows exactly where we are if you ask. We don't have one of those big fancy storefronts with glass windows and bright lights. It's more of a place where the actual work happens directly. You’ll see piles of denim and blue thread everywhere because that’s the main thing we handle. We usually keep the door open to let some air move through. Sometimes the neighbor's kids run past making a lot of noise or playing games, but that’s just part of living and working in a chawl. We just focus on getting the work finished.
