Custom

Our place is out in Kandivali West at Survey No 1534 2. It's a bit of a walk from the main station, but people usually find their way here without too much trouble. We call the business Custom because that's what we do—whatever needs doing for the people who walk in. It’s not a shiny showroom like you see in the magazines. We have stuff piled up in the corners and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy for that right now. Most of us here grew up in this part of town and went to the school down the road. We know how hard people work, so we don't try to make things complicated or expensive. If you need something specific, we try to get it from our suppliers. If we can't, we'll tell you who else might have it. We spend a lot of our time on our feet on the concrete floor. It gets a bit cold in the mornings during the winter, but we have a small heater that we share in the back. It’s a bit cramped when more than three customers are inside at once, especially if they have bags. We don't have a website or anything like that. Word of mouth is how people hear about us. We just like working with our hands and making sure the job is done right. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for the trucks.
