The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland is located on the second floor of Manavi Apartments in Mumbai. It’s at 36 B. G. Kher Marg, right in the Malabar Hill area. It’s a lot quieter up here compared to the rest of the city, which is a bit of a relief. We deal with a lot of paperwork every day—passports, visas, and all kinds of official documents that need stamps. The office has big windows, and you can see a bit of the greenery outside, which makes the long hours of typing and filing more bearable. It’s not a fast-paced place; everything follows a specific order, and we spend a lot of time double-checking names and dates. Sometimes people come in looking a bit stressed about their travel plans, so we just try to get through the forms as clearly as we can. The building itself is an older apartment block, so it has that lived-in feel, not like those glass skyscrapers you see in other parts of Mumbai. We drink a lot of coffee in the small kitchen area and talk about our families or the weather. It’s mostly just quiet administrative work. We make sure the files are organized and the phones are answered. It gets humid in the afternoons, but the fans keep the air moving. It’s a small team here, and we’ve all got our own desks piled with folders and pens. We just keep things running as best as we can without much fuss.
