Pydhonie is one of those places where history just hangs in the air, and Rajbaug Estate has been our spot for a long time. Our place, Comet Mugatlal & Bros, is at 51-A, and it’s a bit of a maze back here if you aren't used to the layout. The building has that old Mumbai feel, with the heavy doors and the narrow hallways that have seen decades of business. We’ve kept the shop pretty much the way it was, with the old wooden desks and the stacks of files that go all the way to the ceiling. It’s not a modern corporate setup by any means. We just handle our daily trade, talking to the same suppliers we’ve known for years. Sometimes the power goes out in the estate and we just sit by the window to get some light, chatting about how the neighborhood has changed. Pydhonie is always noisy with the handcarts and the shouting from the street below, but once you step into 51-A, it feels a bit quieter. My grandfather started things here, and we just kept it going because it’s what we know how to do. There’s no big marketing plan or anything like that. We just open up in the morning, check the ledgers, and wait for the regulars to stop by for a chat or to pick up an order. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done in the estate since we first opened the doors.
