Colours N Collars

Working in a basement at the C S T Subway can be a bit strange because you never see the sun during your shift. We are at shop number 9. Down here, it’s always buzzing with people rushing to catch their trains or get to the office. You can hear the feet tapping on the ground above our heads all day long. D N Colaba is a busy area anyway, but the subway is its own little world. We have clothes and collars hanging everywhere, so it gets a bit crowded. The lights are bright to make up for the fact that there are no windows down here. Sometimes the air gets a bit stuffy, but we have a small fan that helps a little bit. We deal with all sorts of people, from office workers in a hurry to tourists who got lost looking for the station. It’s a very fast-paced environment. I’ve been working here for three years and I still get confused by the different tunnels sometimes. We don't have a fancy showroom. It's just a counter, some racks, and a lot of fabric pieces. My boss is usually in the back cutting things out on a wooden table. We don't spend money on shiny brochures or anything. If someone likes what they see in the window, they come in. It’s pretty straightforward work. The rent is high because of where we are, so we have to stay busy. (248 words)
