City Spare

City Spare is our shop over at Mansurkar House in Charni Road. We are right in 1st Bhatwadi. It’s a busy area and our shop is pretty packed with metal parts and engine components. We’ve been here for years, and the walls are covered in dust from all the stock we keep. We specialize in those hard-to-find bits that the big dealers don’t bother with. It’s a lot of manual work, climbing ladders to get to the top shelves. We don't have a fancy waiting area. Most people just stand at the counter while we look through our catalogs. It gets hot in the afternoons because the ventilation isn't great, but we’re used to it. My partner knows every part number by heart, which is a good thing because our filing system is just a bunch of old boxes. We get all sorts of people coming in, from professional mechanics to guys trying to fix their own bikes on the weekend. We don't do much talking, just find the part and move to the next person. It’s honest work and it keeps the lights on. If we don’t have it today, we can usually get it by next week. We are usually open by nine and stay until the street gets quiet. It’s a no-frills kind of place where we focus on getting the right part to the right person. We don't use computers much, just a few old books and our memories.
