City Gold

City Gold is located at No. 64 Bavian Street. We are right across from the Khatri Masjid, which makes us very easy to find. The sound of the call to prayer is a regular part of our day, and it gives the street a nice rhythm. Our shop is small and often smells like the incense we burn in the mornings. We have been here for a good while now. Most of our customers are people from the neighborhood who have known us for years. We deal in gold pieces, and we try to keep a variety of things in the glass cases. It’s not a high-end boutique with carpets and guards at the door. It’s just a simple shop where you can come in and talk. Sometimes the street gets very crowded with shoppers and scooters, making it hard to hear, but that is part of the charm of Bavian Street. We spend a lot of time cleaning the gold and making sure the displays look okay. If the weather is hot, we keep the door open to get a bit of a breeze, even if the dust comes in too. We don’t use any fancy sales tactics. People come in, they look at what we have, and we tell them the price. It’s an honest way to spend the day. We like being part of this community and seeing the familiar faces walk by our door every single afternoon.
