China Suburb 1

We've been at Shop No 1 in the Beach Apartment for quite a while now. JP Road gets pretty busy, especially with the Versova Picnic Cottage nearby, so there is always something going on outside our door. Most people around here in Andheri West just call us China Suburb 1 because that’s what the sign says. It isn't a huge place, just a regular spot where we cook up food every day. Some days are faster than others. We start early getting the kitchen ready and usually stay open until late when the neighborhood quiets down. It’s mostly just us doing our thing, making sure the orders go out. The apartment building is old but it’s a good spot to be. We see the same faces every week, mostly locals walking back from the beach or people living right upstairs. It gets a bit hot in the kitchen during the afternoons, but that’s just how it is. We don't have fancy decor or anything like that. We just focus on the stove and the prep work. If you're walking around Versova and see the Beach Apartment, that’s where we are. We try to keep things simple and just keep the burners going. It’s a lot of work running a small shop in Mumbai, but we’ve managed to stay put here for a good bit of time now. We like it here. It's home.
