Chemtex Engineering Of India Ltd has been based in Powai for many years. We have seen this area change from being mostly empty land to a place full of tall buildings and heavy traffic. Our office is where all the planning happens. We aren't out on a construction site every day; instead, we are sitting at our drafting tables and computers working on engineering designs and various project documents. The office is usually quiet, except for the sound of someone printing out a big stack of blueprints or the occasional meeting in the corner. We have cabinets full of old files from projects we did ten or twenty years ago because we like to keep a record of everything. It’s an engineering life, so it involves a lot of checking numbers and making sure the drawings are right. We don't have fancy decorations on the walls, just some calendars and maybe a few technical charts. Most of us have been working in this field for a long time, so we just get on with it without much fuss. Lunchtime is when we usually head out to one of the small stalls nearby or just eat at our desks if we are pushed for time. Dealing with the paperwork and the technical requirements of the industry takes up most of our energy. It is steady, honest work that requires a lot of patience. We just keep our heads down and focus on the current project until it’s finished.
