Caligraphy By Kannu Priya

I run Caligraphy By Kannu Priya from my space at 102, Jolly Maker Apartment No in Colaba. It is very close to the Hotel President, so it is easy for people to find me if they need to. My work is mostly about ink, pens, and paper. I don't have a big staff or a fancy storefront. It is just a studio in an apartment where I sit and write. Colaba is a busy part of town, but my room is usually quiet. I spend hours focusing on different styles of writing. Sometimes my hands get ink on them or a nib breaks, but that is just how it goes. I don't use any machines for this; it is all done by hand, one letter at a time. I don't like using corporate language because it doesn't fit what I do. It is very personal work. People bring me invitations or certificates, and I do my best to make them look nice. It’s not about being perfect, but about the feel of the hand-drawn lines. The apartment isn't a showroom; it’s a place where work happens. I have my favorite pens and stacks of different papers everywhere. Some days the light is great and I get a lot done, and other days I just struggle with a particular ink. Being near the Hotel President means I can hear the city outside, but I just stay focused on the page in front of me.
