Byl Nair Hospital Mumbai Central

We spend most of our days here on the ground floor of the new building at A L Nair Road. It’s located in Mumbai Central, so the whole area is usually quite loud and full of people moving around. Our specific spot is OPD number five in the dispensary section. It’s a busy corner of the hospital where we handle a lot of the daily paperwork and medicine distribution. The walls are a standard off-white and there’s always a bit of a breeze coming through the main doors, though it doesn’t help much with the humidity. We have some wooden benches for people to sit on while they wait for their turn. The registers are stacked on the desks and we try to keep things in order, even when it gets hectic in the afternoons. Sometimes the elevator in the new building takes a while to arrive, so many of us just use the stairs to get around. There’s a small tea stall just outside the gate where we often grab a quick drink during the short breaks we get. It’s not a fancy office by any means, but it’s where we do our work. The floor is made of hard stone tiles that have seen better days. Every morning starts with the sound of the shutters going up and the first few patients trickling in from the street. It’s just the regular, slightly messy reality of running a dispensary in such a big city hospital.
