We are based in Dadar on Obalappa Street, right on the second floor of the building. The Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking has a lot of history in this city, and this office is just one part of that big system. Being in Dadar means we are right in the middle of everything. The building is older, with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors that have been painted over many times. Inside, there are stacks of files and ledgers that seem to go back years. We have large ceiling fans that hum loudly all day to keep the air moving. It is a very busy environment because we are always dealing with some aspect of the city's power or bus transport. You can hear the sounds of the street and the distant honking of buses from the windows. It is not a modern, glass-walled office. It feels like a place that has seen a lot of work over the decades. People come and go constantly, and the hallways are often filled with the sound of shuffling papers and conversations. Our desks are old and heavy, and there is a lot of paperwork to get through every single day. Working for a public utility means there is never a dull moment, and we just try to keep things moving as best as we can from our spot here on the second floor. It is a very practical, hardworking atmosphere where the history of Mumbai's infrastructure feels very real and present.
