Running a transport business near Crawford Market means you never really get a quiet moment. We are located at 20 Sabusiddik Road, which is right by Carnac Bridge. All day long, you hear the trucks rumbling and the shouting of the loaders. I’ve been coming to this office for a long time, and the walls are still that same old shade of paint. We have a couple of heavy wooden desks and some filing cabinets that have seen better days. Dealing with deliveries and schedules in this part of town is a lot of work because the roads are so narrow and crowded. You have to know the shortcuts and when the traffic is going to be at its worst. My father used to say that if you can handle transport here, you can handle it anywhere. We spend a lot of time on the phone, checking where the drivers are and if the cargo is okay. It’s a lot of paperwork and making sure the logs are filled out correctly. When it rains, the area around the bridge gets really messy, but we just keep going. We don’t use any fancy tracking software that’s too complicated; we mostly rely on our notebooks and knowing the people we work with. It’s just honest, hard work day in and day out. We usually wrap things up late in the evening when the market starts to quiet down just a little bit before tomorrow starts again.
