Bombay Lime & Hardware Stores

We are located at Badak Chawl, specifically between 41 and 57. It is right next to the Kalachowki Post Office on Dr B A Road. If you see the Voltas building, you know you are close. Bombay Lime & Hardware Stores has been a fixture in this neighborhood for a long time. The building is old and has that specific smell of metal and lime that you only find in hardware shops. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, filled with everything you can think of. Finding things sometimes takes a minute because we have so much stuff packed in here. It is a bit dark inside even during the day, so we have a few bright bulbs hanging from the rafters. The post office next door brings a lot of foot traffic past our door. We spend our days cutting wire, weighing out powder, and chatting with the contractors who stop by. It is a busy life in a busy part of the city. We do not do any fancy advertising; we just rely on people knowing we are here. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little near the back door, but we just put a bucket down and keep going. It is just us and the tools and the daily grind. We like being part of the history of this chawl and staying here.
