Working at No. 12 New Marine Lines means you’re right in the thick of Mumbai life. The Bombay Hospital And Medical Research Center is a big place, and I work in one of the sections that handles a lot of the day-to-day administrative stuff. The address says Marine Lines, and you can definitely feel the energy of the city here. The building has these high ceilings that make it feel bigger than it is, but the offices themselves are quite small and filled with papers. I’ve noticed the paint peeling a little bit in the corners, but nobody really has time to worry about that. We focus on getting the records right and making sure everyone knows where they are supposed to go. The commute to get here can be a bit of a struggle with the trains being so full, but once I’m at my desk, it’s just about getting through the pile of work. We have a small window that doesn't show much except the side of the next building. It’s a very functional environment. No one is wearing fancy suits; we just wear what’s comfortable for a long day. We share stories about our families during the lunch hour and complain about the rain when the monsoon hits.
