Bija Conservation Foundation

Our foundation is located in the old Fort area of Mumbai, which has a lot of history in every corner. Bija Conservation Foundation is on the 5th floor of Sadhna Rayan House. We are right on Dadabhai Navroji Road, which is famous for the old Handloom House building nearby. This part of the city is always crowded with people walking to work or tourists looking at the architecture. The building we are in is one of those classic old Mumbai structures with high ceilings and heavy doors. You can feel the age of the place when you walk in. Getting up to the 5th floor takes a minute, but once you’re there, it’s a bit quieter than the street level. We have our desks set up to handle the conservation work and various projects we have going on. The rooms are a bit narrow, but they have a lot of character. We don't have new, shiny furniture; most of it is stuff we’ve gathered over the years. It feels like a real place where people actually spend their time thinking and working. The light comes in through the tall windows in the morning, which is nice. We spend our days coordinating our efforts and keeping track of all the paperwork that comes with running a foundation. It’s a busy spot in a busy city, but we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. It’s a bit worn out but it works for us.
