Sewree is a busy spot. Our place is in Bussa Udyog Bhavan on Tokersi Jivraj Road. It is an industrial building, so there is always some noise from the other units around us. We are on the fourth floor at number 429. Most of our day is spent looking at gold and silver pieces that people bring in. Hallmarking is what we do, so we use our machines to check the purity and then put the marks on. It is a lot of technical work, but we have been doing it for a while now. The stairs can be a bit of a climb if the lift is slow, which happens sometimes. We have some desks and the testing equipment set up. It is not a fancy showroom or anything like that. Just a practical workspace where we focus on the jobs at hand. People from the local jewelry shops around Sewree West come by often. We keep track of everything in our ledgers and make sure the stamps are clear. Sometimes it gets quite hot in the afternoon, but we just keep the fans going and get through the pile of items on the table. It is steady work. We see a lot of different designs every day. Some are simple rings and others are heavy necklaces. We treat them all the same because the hallmark has to be right regardless of what the piece looks like.
