Aurah Spa & Salon

Down here in Powai, we have Aurah Spa & Salon. It’s tucked into one of the quieter parts of the neighborhood. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is usually the smell of different oils and shampoos. It’s quite different from the smell of the street outside. We spend a lot of our day folding towels. There are stacks of them in the laundry room that never seem to get smaller. We try to keep the place looking neat, but with hair being cut and water splashing, it’s a constant battle with the broom. The chairs are lined up against the mirrors. We’ve got some plants in the corner that I try to remember to water every morning. Sometimes they look a bit sad, but they survive. Our staff is just a few local people who know their way around a pair of scissors or a massage table. We don't talk much while we work unless the customer wants to chat. Most people just want to sit in the chair and forget about their day for a bit. It’s a simple routine. We check the appointment book, prep the stations, and wait for the next person to walk in. The fan on the ceiling wobbles a little, but it keeps the air moving. It’s just a regular shop where we do our work. We close up around eight most nights.
