Our place is over in Byculla, right near Dockyard Road. If you know Samadhan Niwas, we are in Flat No 2, at building number 521. It’s one of those old-school buildings where everyone knows each other’s business. We’ve set up our architecture and interior design work here because it’s central and has a certain character you don’t find in the newer glass towers. It can get pretty humid in the summer, especially being so close to the docks, but we’ve got a good breeze that comes through the windows. The office is usually packed with samples of wood, tiles, and catalogs that we’ve collected over the years. We do a bit of everything—designing, decorating, and the technical architectural stuff. It’s a small team, so we all end up doing a bit of everything, from answering the door to drawing up complex layouts. Sometimes the noise from the railway or the traffic outside is a lot, but we’ve grown used to it. It’s part of the rhythm of working in Byculla. We aren't interested in being some high-end firm that nobody can talk to. We like being accessible. If someone from the building needs a bit of help with a renovation, they just knock on the door of Flat 2. We’ve spent many late nights here under the tube lights, trying to get a project just right. It’s tiring but it’s what we do. The walls are a bit stained from the rain, but the work we produce inside is solid. We just take it one project at a time.
