Ashok Vatika Nursery & Landscapes

The nursery is located right on Mahakali Caves Road in Andheri East. It is a bit of a green patch in a very busy, gray part of the city. We spend most of our days moving heavy pots around and making sure everything gets enough water before the sun gets too hot. There is always a lot of dirt under our fingernails. We keep a variety of plants, from small ones for your desk to bigger shrubs for gardens. The traffic outside is usually loud with all the rickshaws and buses, but once you walk past the gate, it feels a little different. We also do some landscaping work, which means we go out to other people's places to set up their green spaces. It is messy work and we often get caught in the rain during the monsoon months. Our stock changes with the seasons, so sometimes we have flowers and other times it is mostly ferns and palms. We do not use any complicated systems here. We just know which plants need shade and which ones can handle the Mumbai heat. It is a simple life of looking after living things. People stop by on their way home from work to pick up a new pot or some fertilizer. We usually have a stray cat or two hanging around the back where it is quiet. (244 words)
