Ashok Automobile

Ashok Automobile is tucked away in Goregaon East. It’s not a fancy showroom, just a place where we get our hands dirty fixing cars and bikes. The floor always has a few oil stains no matter how much we scrub it, but that’s just the nature of the business. I usually have a few engines opened up and parts spread out on newspaper while I work. People from around the neighborhood bring their vehicles here because they know I don't talk fancy or charge for things they don't need. It gets really hot in the summer under the tin roof, but we have a cooler that helps a bit. The shelves are packed with spark plugs, oil filters, and belts that I’ve collected over the years. I don't use any of those high-tech diagnostic computers; I mostly rely on what I can hear and feel when the engine is running. My son helps out on the weekends when he isn't in school, and I'm teaching him how to use a wrench properly. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and sometimes my back hurts at the end of the day, but seeing a car drive off smooth makes it worth it. We don't have a big sign outside, just some old tires stacked up to let people know what we do. It’s a simple, honest workshop and we like keeping it that way for our customers.
