You can find Asha Dyes Chemicals up on the 5th floor of the Pragraj building in Dhobi Chawl. It’s on SB Road in Masjid Bunder West. Being on the 5th floor means a lot of stairs, especially when the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we'd like. We keep a variety of dyes and chemicals here in Room No 54. The space smells a bit like work—kind of a mix of powders and old paper. It’s not a place where people come to browse. Usually, it’s customers who know exactly what type of dye they need for their fabric or project. We spend our time measuring things out and packing them into smaller containers. It can be messy work, and our hands often end up with some color on them by the end of the shift. We’ve been in this room for a long time. The building is old and crowded with other small businesses just like ours. We don't do much marketing or have a big sales pitch. People come to us because we’ve been here and we have the stock. It’s a simple setup. We track everything in our notebooks and keep the shelves as organized as we can. It’s just a regular day-to-day operation in a busy part of town. When it gets dark outside, the view from the window is mostly just other rooftops and drying laundry. We finish our work, lock up Room 54, and head down those long stairs at the end.
