Amit Engineers

Sakinaka is a tough place to work because of the dust and the constant noise of trucks. Our shop is at number 25 on Maharaja Marg. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t even notice the traffic anymore. Amit Engineers is basically a place where we fix machines and make small parts. My hands are usually covered in grease by ten am. We have some old lathes and a welding machine in the corner. It's not a showroom, it’s a workshop. The floor is concrete and there are piles of iron rods near the entrance. Most of our customers are from the small factories nearby. They bring us things that broke and ask if we can get them running again. Sometimes we can, sometimes we have to tell them it’s too far gone. We drink a lot of water because it gets very stuffy inside during the summer months. There is a small tea shop two doors down where we spend our breaks. My brother helps with the accounts and I handle the technical stuff. We don't use any high-tech computers, just our eyes and some measuring tools. It’s honest work and it pays the bills. If you’re looking for Maharaja Marg, just look for the big blue door. We stay open until the last job of the day is done, which is often late.
