If you walk down Vaju Kotak Marg in Fort, you’ll find us at Shop 56. Al Ruby Cell Clinic has been in this little corner for a good bit of time. The space is tiny, barely enough for a couple of us to sit behind the counter and still have room for the spare parts. Every day, phones come in with cracked screens or batteries that won't hold a charge anymore. We see a lot of people who are in a hurry because they're on their way to work in one of the big offices around here. It gets crowded in the afternoons. We use these small screwdrivers and magnifying glasses to see what's going on inside the devices. Sometimes the parts are so small they almost disappear if you drop them. The floor is old tile and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it doesn't really matter for fixing phones. We keep a radio playing in the background most of the time to drown out the street noise. Fort is a busy place, always something happening outside the door. We just focus on the task at hand. It’s steady work. When a phone finally turns back on after being dead, it’s a good feeling. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the one over the door. People find us by word of mouth mostly. We keep our tools organized as best we can on the shelves.
