Aksha Garment

Our workshop is located at Gala No. E9 in the Haji Vakli Compound. It is right in the Shri Nagar area, near the Madina Masjid on Khairani Road in Saki Naka. It is a very busy part of Mumbai, and you can always hear the sound of traffic and the call to prayer from the mosque nearby. Aksha Garment is basically a large room where all the cutting and sewing happens. We have several machines lined up, and the floor is usually covered with scraps of thread and fabric. It is a hardworking atmosphere. The compound has many other small units, so there is always someone loading a van or carrying rolls of cloth past our door. We don't have a sign that's very big or flashy. Most people find us because they know the area or they’ve been told where to look. We spend our days making sure the garments are finished on time. It can get quite hot in the afternoon, but we just keep the doors open and let the air circulate. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the work that needs to be finished by the end of the week. It’s a simple life here in Saki Naka. We don't try to make it sound more than it is. We are just a local garment unit doing our best to keep up with the orders that come through Khairani Road.
