Our shop is at 5 Vivekanand Niwas, which is right across from the fish market in Dev Pada on S V Road. Being in Borivali East means it’s always busy outside, especially in the mornings when the market is in full swing. You can hear all the shouting and the traffic from inside the shop. We sell mostly imitation jewelry, the kind of pieces that look nice but don’t cost a fortune. It’s popular for weddings or festivals when people want to look their best without worrying too much. The shop is small and can get pretty hot in the afternoons, but we have a small cooler that helps a bit. We spend our time arranging the necklaces on the velvet boards and making sure everything looks presentable. A lot of ladies come in after they finish their market shopping to see if we have any new designs in. We’ve been in this building for a few years now. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the jewelry still shines under the lights. We try to be helpful and let people try things on to see how they look. It’s a lively spot to be, even if it gets a bit cramped when it’s raining outside and everyone crowds into the doorway. We just keep the cases clean and wait for the next customer to walk through the door. It is a loud neighborhood but we enjoy the energy.
