Down here at 33, Ismail Building, it’s always crowded. Pathakwadi is just like that, especially around Lohar Chawl where everyone is looking for parts or tools. A. K. M. Engineering Ind. isn't a factory you'd see in a magazine. It's a real workshop with oil on the floor and the sound of metal hitting metal. We've got our machines tucked into the space we have. Sometimes it feels tight when we get a big order in, but we make it work. The Ismail Building has seen better days, sure, but it’s home for us. My father used to say that if you can find it in Lohar Chawl, you can find it anywhere. We deal with all sorts of engineering bits and pieces. Some days are just spent cleaning the lathes or fixing a tool that gave out. It gets noisy with the traffic outside and the work inside, but you get used to it after a few years. We drink a lot of tea to keep going. Customers come in with drawings on scraps of paper, and we figure out how to make what they need. It's not fancy engineering, just practical stuff that needs doing. We try to stay organized but with so many small parts, something always ends up under a bench. That's just how the day goes at Pathakwadi. We keep at it every day because it's what we know how to do.
