We are based out in Village Kamaalpur, which is part of the Kunderki block. It’s quite a distance from the main city, so things are a bit quieter here, except for the sounds of our own work. At Metro Ceramics, we handle a lot of heavy items. There are pallets of tiles and ceramic goods stacked up in the yard. Because we are in a village area, the roads aren't always the smoothest, so we have to be really careful when we pack the trucks so nothing breaks on the way to the customers. The air in the facility usually has a bit of a chalky smell to it from all the ceramic material. We have a large open shed where we do most of the sorting. The staff mostly comes from the local village, so we all know each other's families and what's going on in the town. We don't have a fancy showroom; we just show people the samples right there in the storage area. Sometimes a cow or two will wander near the entrance, and we have to shoo them away so they don't get in the way of the forklift. The sun sets behind the fields in the evening, and that’s usually when we start locking up for the day. It is a simple life and a simple business, focusing on getting the ceramics where they need to go without any fuss or extra polish to the building or the way we talk.
