We are situated at J S House on Sahu Street, right by Manoj Chowk. If you know the chowk, you know how busy it gets with all the people and the rickshaws constantly moving around. Our building is right in the middle of that energy. Sahu Street is narrow, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze when the delivery vans try to back up to our door. Inside J S House, it’s mostly about the table wares. We have piles of things everywhere. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes from one corner to the other. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks from years of use. We don’t mind it much. It’s a place for working, not for looking pretty. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to stop everything and do it. We start early when the market is just waking up and stay until the shutters go down on the other shops in the evening. You can smell the food from the stalls at the chowk all day long. It makes us hungry around noon. There is always someone coming in or out with a clipboard. We keep the fans on high because it gets stuffy with all the stock blocking the airflow. It’s just how we live and work on Sahu Street, keeping things moving through the busy city life.
