S.D. Kanya Inter College

S.D. Kanya Inter College is situated in Kanker Khera, which is a busy part of Meerut. Being an inter college for girls, we have a lot of students from the local community here. The building is an older one and it feels like it’s been part of the landscape forever. You can see the wear on the walls and the floors, but it’s sturdy. We have the usual setup of classrooms with rows of wooden desks that have been scratched up by years of use. It’s not a quiet place by any means, especially when the girls are changing classes or during the lunch break. We follow the state board curriculum, so there’s a lot of focus on those final exams. The teachers’ lounge is always full of stacks of notebooks and the smell of tea. We don’t really do anything fancy here. There aren't any high-tech gadgets in every room, just blackboards and chalk. Sometimes the power goes out and we just open the windows wider to let the breeze in. It's a very local atmosphere. Most parents around Kanker Khera know us and many of the mothers actually went to school here themselves years ago. It’s just one of those places that keeps going, year after year, without much changing. We are here from the early morning until the afternoon when the girls head back home through the narrow streets. It’s just a normal, everyday school for this part of Meerut.
